Introduction of the course

The operation theater (OT) technicians are an important member of the surgical team. They prepare and maintain the operating theatre and its equipment, assist the surgical team during operations and provides support to patients in the recovery room. This course has been developed for the Operation Theater (OT) Technicians working in eye hospitals and clinics. The objective is to reinforce important concepts of operation theater management including:

  • Preparation of OT for surgery
  • Infection Control
  • Care of equipment etc.

Curriculum For This Course

The operation theater (OT) technicians are an important member of the surgical team. They are responsible for the maintenance of the operation theatre and its equipment, assist the surgical team during operations and provide support to patients in the recovery room.

This module reinforces the responsibilities of an OT technician in the maintenance of an operation theatre. The modules demonstrate the how cleaning of an OT must be done.

This module gives a brief overview of the anatomy physiology of the eye. The knowledge gained will give the OT technician get a better understanding of the conditions of the eye and the surgeries.

This module explains how infection are caused in the hospitals and methods of preventing it. This will enable the OT technician to adopt safe practices to protect the patient and self from infection.

This module describes the protocol to be followed for the issue and return of items, the documentation process and the updating of stocks in the unit.

It comprises of a theory based presentation and two demonstrative videos.

This module gives a detailed information of the different instruments used in ophthalmic surgeries.

This module describes the instruments used for different ophthalmic surgeries:
Once the surgeries are over these need to be cleaned nicely before it is sent for sterilization.
This module demonstrates how the instruments and linen should be packed neatly.
This video describes the basic set up of a trolley for phacoemulsification surgery. This process is followed for almost all the surgeries.

This module describes the pre, intraoperative and post-operative care of the patients undergoing eye surgeries

The OT technicians are expected to have some basic knowledge of these drugs and that’s what is described in these modules.
