Introduction of the course

Injection administration is a common procedure that every nurse would be performing as a part of daily clinical routine. This course helps to review the procedure of medication administration via intramuscular, subcutaneous and intradermal route and acquires the skills.

The objective of this course is to:

  • Understand the concepts and principles related to injection administration
  • Demonstrate the techniques of intramuscular injection administration
  • Demonstrate the techniques of subcutaneous injection administration
  • Demonstrate the techniques of intradermal injection administration

Curriculum For This Course

The aim of this module is to facilitate the safe administration of injections via intramuscular, intradermal and subcutaneous route.

Injection is the method of administering medications through parenteral route.

The first part of this module deals with the various methods of administering drugs/medications.
The second part of this module deals with the rights of medication administration, needle disposal and prevention of needle stick injury.

Medicines when injected into the muscles it is called intramuscular injection.

The first part of this module deals with the basics on intramuscular injection, indication, purpose, contraindication, method of administration, routes of administration and patient education.
The second part of this module demonstrates the method of administering intramuscular medication via Z-track method and Vastus Lateralis route, post procedural care, needle disposal and complications related with intramuscular injection administration.
